The Vegas convention allowed me to fill some holes in my Star Trek portfolio. Adding JohnBillingsley is one more off the Enterprise list.
He was funny on stage. The panel was of Enterprise cast members
and they were asked what they would have wanted to do different or do for an Enterprise
movie. With a mock chip on his shoulder, John said he wanted to have sex. Everyone else got sex. Only his character
didn’t. It was mentioned he was married but then he reminded the crowd that his
wife was trying to sleep with another crewman.
He was signing after the panel. When I got to the front of
the line, I mentioned how funny his comments were about sex. He took opportunity to put that chip back on his shoulder and reiterated to the people in queue how his character needed sex and I shouldn’t
laugh at that deficiency. He had me laughing again.
He did one other thing I want to point out. As he handed the photo back with his autograph, he took the time to look at the person and
say thank you. He paused and waited for them to leave before turning to the next person
in line. Since it was Sunday afternoon
and the fans were tired, I don’t think most fans realized he was doing this. They
took their item and moved on to the next task for the day without seeing or hearing
him say thanks. I don’t know if he always does this or it was because of COVID
and the plexiglass screen between the fans and himself. But I thought it was
very kind to make sure no one was rushed off. A classy way to finish the interaction.
