John O’Hurley Superhero car Show 2022

The last autograph I picked up was John O’Hurley. He was at a booth promoting pet adoption. The money for his autograph went to the pet adoption organization. That was kind of him.

The table had a very nice selection of photos. He is a busy character actor. When I saw the X-Files photo, I knew I wanted that one signed. He looked at the black and while 8x10 and mentioned that episode was nominated for several Emmys.

After he signed, my fellow hound and I rushed out. I drove him to the airport to catch his plane.  Yeah, sometime, we draw the line too fine when we collect. And yes, I had he X-File theme song in my head for most of the day.

Nicholas Lea Chiller Theater April 2018

I have ‘made’ The Wife watch a lot of sci fi over the years.  I think most of it she tolerates. Some of it she likes.  X-Files was something we watched together. I think she really liked this series.  I also think she had a crush on the male lead. That’s okay. I had a crush on the female lead.

Through the years of roller-coaster plot twists on X-Files, Nicholas Lea played a re-occurring character, Alex Krycek.  When you saw his character on the TV screen you expected the mythology of the series to be explored instead of a monster hunter episode.

I was happy to get this opportunity to see him as he doesn’t do that many shows; at least shows that I attend.  He was nice.  He spent some time talking to a couple dressed as Mulder and Scully.

Brian Thompson Chiller Theater April 2018

Brian Thompson has done a lot of sci fi. Since I watch a lot of sci fi, I have seen him a lot over the decades. He’s a large muscular man and plays a lot of heavies and aliens.

He stood instead of sitting behind his table. He talked to fans about the variety of characters he played.   Because he had roles in a few different franchises, he was signing posters from X-Files, Star Trek, Buffy, and Terminator.

Even though the photo is black and white, I liked this one from X-Files.

Joel McHale Addsion Improv 2018

I enjoyed The Soup. I wasn’t a passionate watcher but I would catch it a few times a year.  I thought Joel McHale was funny. Then he popped up in X-Files. Why wouldn’t I want his autograph?

A couple of fellow hounds and I went to the Addison Improv and caught his show. He was pretty funny. After the show, we waited outside with the smokers (people still huddle together, ostracized, in the cold, to chain smoke) for an hour or so before he came out.

He posed for photos, chatted about his new show on Netflix, and signed the various photos the 5 of us had for him.

Mitch Pileggi Dallas ComicCon 2015

X-Files started when I was watching very little TV.  Even though it was sci fi, I wasn’t watching it. I had low expectations from any show on the Fox Network.  Yes, very snobby of me.  We can be our own worst enemies at times.  Keep in mind that Simpsons and Married with Children were the big hits on Fox at the time.

One Friday night I was sick. As I lay in bed with a fever, I turned on the TV and I watched my first episode.  It was a good.  It had potential.  I started watching X-Files each week ever since.

Over the years, Deputy Director Skinner became part of the family. We trusted him. We knew he had our back. We would help in whatever way he could because we all knew the Truth was out There.

Since the end of X-Files, I have seen Mitch Pileggi in a few different series but he’ll always be Skinner to me.  As he signed, we exchanged a few words.   I told him I enjoyed his character in Supernatural.  I told him my wife still lamented the end of Dallas.  He was gracious and upbeat. He mentioned he loves Texas and actually lives out here.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson #SDCC 2013

One of my favorite booths at SDCC is LightSpeed FineArts.  They have celebs signing throughout the show.  Because of them, I have most of the cast of Star Trek Next Generation.  This year they brought in David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Gillian does a few shows a year but we have never crossed paths.  I can’t say I’ve ever seen David listed at a convention.  So I was immediately on the phone when LightSpeed announced preorders for these two.

David was a limited signing; he was only appearing on Thursday.  While I needed to wait in line, the line wasn’t long. And since this was a cattle call (in and out with no conversation), the wait was short too.

The young lady in front of me showed off her canvas painting of ‘I Want to Believe’ poster.  David seemed interested and asked a couple of questions and the lady also squealed in joy.  Gillian just signed.

As a halo effect, I caught David’s interest and he smiled at me and said hello.  I think if I put my hand out, he would have shaken it. I know I muttered something about really enjoying Californication; but as I said I muttered it and he didn’t respond.  I had wanted to say something about seeing StephenTobolowshy and his comments about the upcoming season but I was out the door before I could say thank you to Gillian Anderson.

While not the most personal encounter it was memorable and exciting. These were 2 signatures I have wanted for a long time.

Somehow, even though David and I never touched, I know he implanted an earworm on me. After I left the booth, I heard the X-File's tune in my head. I must have been whistling it under my breath for the next hour.

The Truth Is Out There.
