James C Leary Dallas Comic & Pop Expo 2014

I had to wait just a few moments for James C Leary to finish taking a photo with a fan.  He quickly came back to the table and greeted me.

 He was outgoing and friendly and quickly offered me an upgrade to his autograph: 2 photos for a small price bump. I took him up on it as his Buffy character was in full makeup and you don’t see the actor.  This way I got a photo with him in and out of character.

He mentioned he grew up in the Dallas area and actually moved back to Texas a few years ago.  He’s been enjoying the slower and less toxic lifestyle out here.

Ron Lester Dallas Comic & Pop Expo 2014

The way Ron Lester looks now, you may not recognize him.  When he was on Varsity Blues he was large.

 I would guess he dropped half that weight. He looks good, muscular, and healthy.

He was very friendly. He invited me to add him as a Facebook friend. He wanted to me to check out his car in the parking (it was wrapped to promote a movie).

He was there to meet people and interact and not just to sign.

LeeAnna Vamp Dallas Comic & Pop Expo 2014

Lately, I’ve been into Cosplayers.  Well, let’s qualify that. I’ve been intrigued by female cosplayers. I follow a few on Facebook and Twitter. I’ve gotten one autograph and look forward to getting more.

I didn’t know LeeAnna Vamp. I didn’t follow her. When I saw that she was listed for the show, I looked her up and saw a lot of nice photos of her. She’s been to a lot of shows and I bet I’ve seen her but hadn’t noticed her.

I printed a photo in advance as it seems the cosplayers like to sell 11 x 17’s.  That’s way too big in my opinion.  8x10’s take up enough room in the house.

I walked over and asked if she sign my photo.  She did. And because I brought my own photo she didn’t charge me.  I didn’t expect that. I know the cosplayers use the money from autographs to attend other shows or pay for more photo shoots.  Even after I offered to pay, she refused. That was very nice of her.

And of course we talked ComicCon: SDCC.  Something I always enjoy doing.  Now that she is on the radar, I’m sure I’ll see her there.

Dallas Comic & Pop Expo March 2014

Dallas Comic & Pop Expo was a small convention in a small venue but it worked. The crowd was small but that can be a good thing; no one bumping you; no one blocking an aisle for minutes at a time.

I got there late; had chores to do in the morning. I knew the event was small. I only had a couple of people I needed to get.

I actually walked in the wrong door. No one checked if I had paid.  I saw a friend and chatted for a while.  I then walked through the whole show to pay. Yeah, I was honest.

There was a lot of cosplay which surprised me. Considering it was a smaller event and with a smaller crowd, I expected more people to just take a peak and leave than cosplay.  Well, good for them.

This convention is already panning another show in September. A small show twice a year is fine by me.
