Paige Turco Greater Austin ComicCon 2025

The whole reason of going to Greater Austin ComicCon was to see Paige Turco. She was scheduled for last year but there were software issues with the airlines that canceled thousands of flights. One of those flights was hers.  She generously agreed to come back this year. Which was very exciting for me.

I drove down with 2 fellow collectors. It made the trip easier. Long drives get to be a grind. It was nice to chat with someone as the miles passed in the rear-view mirror.

When we found Paige’s table, she was away.  I asked the handler when she was coming back. He pointed to Kevin Clash’s table and said she was chatting with him. We didn’t need to wait long before she wandered back. We were greeted with a wonderful smile.

We chatted for a while. She was so glad to be invited back this year. She mentioned some issues with the flight this year too and had a passing fear of missing again.  It ended up with only a delay and then she was in Austin.

I mentioned I had 3 items to get signed. All from The 100. Her face brightened as I pulled out the first mini poster. She looked over the other signatures. I explained to her and my buddies about the WB group signing. I was very happy to get a chance to add her to the poster.

I mentioned I would like to match the color of the other signatures. A black and grey sharpie would work.

She signed the first. She signed next to her ‘daughter’. Fitting. The second mini poster my buddy suggested signing top and center. I agreed it was a good place. Both mini posters looked great.

I handed over the 8x10. She suggested a bronze color. I gently frowned and countered with blue.  They didn’t have a blue so I pulled out my blue deco. I suggested she could ‘test’ the bronze on my top loader and we could look at the results with the photo underneath the coloring.  I was correct. That color would have been hidden.

The blue pops nicely.

I stepped away and let my photo dry. Paige chatted with my buddies. She was just as charming with them. I’m so glad she made it this year after unable to appear last year.

The 100 DragonCon 2023

DragonCon had several people from the series, The 100. I picked up the 3 I didn’t have. All three were friendly and willing to chat.

I think I said the same thing to all 3 of the actors: I really enjoyed the show more than I expected.

I think all replied with the same question back to me: Because it was the on The WB?

I guess they hear that a lot. But it’s true. I love Supernatural but other WB series were more about teen angst and drama than a story.

Luisa d’Oliveira saw my photo and said she liked it. She told me she had a quote if I didn’t mind. She was in charge and I let her do what she wanted.  I looked at the quote and I loved it. It did sum up the character (and a few others) on that show.

Tasya Teles also liked the photo I brought. We just did the normal chit chat.

Bob Morley had the longest line. It was all girls. That makes sense. They all wanted to help his character to heal.

If I remember right, we talked about a good place to eat. He was looking forward to seeing what Atlanta had to offer.

Shannon Kook Texas Frightmare 2022

Shannon Kook was in The 100. I really enjoyed that series. It did wander through a second nuclear apocalypse and destroying another culture or two on the way to the finale.

Shannon was friendly and he mentioned that after Bob Markey left the show, the story line and scripts were changed. His character involvement to the main plot was altered. It’s always interesting to learn how fluid a story arc can be – even after scripts are written.

Ricky Whittle DragonCon 2021

When I entered DragonCon’s ‘Walk of Fame’, on Saturday, I was specifically looking for Ricky Whittle. I loved him in American Gods and I really enjoyed The 100. In the past, at SDCC, I was lucky enough to get cast items signed from both of those shows but I wanted something with just him.

When I got the table, there were two people behind the plexiglass. They were moving boxing and setting up the table. I have to do a double take to make sure that was Ricky.  As I approached, he did some last-minute straightening and greeted me with a big smile.  I was the first customer of the day.

He signed and then came out from behind the table. Then we talked. About The 100 and working with those fresh faces. Then we talked about working on American Gods and how he tried to be a sponge trying to suck up all of the nuisances that those actors displayed. He spoke glowingly about Ian McShane.

As we chatted a lady walked up and joined the conversation. After a minute she asked if Ricky recognized her. With masks on, it’s hard. She removed her mask and he did know her. They started a new conversation recalling how they met before. That was my cue to leave but he included me in the conversation. The three us continued chatting. It was really nice.

Nadia Hilker DragonCon 2021

I was happy to add another Walking Dead actor to my collection. And to top that it’s also another signature to my 100 collection.  Nadia Hilker was at DragonCon. I selected a photo from Walking Dead. And as we chatted for a few seconds, I mentioned I really enjoyed the 100, too.  When she signed she added both characters names.

At first, I was confused. Obviously, my poke face failed. She asked what was wrong. I sheepishly said, I missed the last episode of Walking Dead.  Does Magna have multiple personalities.  She laughed. She said she added the 100 character’s name too because we were talking about both shows.

Then I laughed. I actually think it’s neat.

Kass Morgan SDCC 2018

As I have mentioned before, I really enjoy the TV series, The 100. I have gotten autographs from several cast members. Now was the chance to get the author, Kass Morgan.

Authors can be hit or miss at SDCC. Sometimes they have extremely long lines. Sometimes they are chatty and the line is slow. Other times, the line is short or empty and the process is quick.

This time the line was short-ish. I got to the front of the line fairly quick but the person in front of me had a lot to say. It’s wasn’t an issue and Kass was kind and listened.

For me, I think Kass wondered if I read the book. I’m not the demographic (Teen and/or Female). But I told her I really enjoyed the show and I was excited to get her to sign a copy of the book that started the series.

As an added bonus, I got  Light Years for free (advanced reading copy) and signed.  Very cool.

Eliza Taylor – Fan Expo Dallas 2018

While I have Eliza Taylor’s signature on a mini poster for the 100, I wanted her on an 8x10. Much like at SDCC, she seemed very sweet.

It’s odd to say you forget how pretty she is. Like a few other shows on TV, the makeup is dirt and grease and blood and bruises.  In person, with the hair washed and blow dried and with lip gloss and eye shadow, you see the beauty that is hidden in every episode.

100 cast signing SDCC 2017

Thursday night, much like Christmas Eve, we had visions of Game of Throne wristbands dancing in our heads. When we woke, we found the Grinch had stolen Christmas.

As we neared the WB corral, a mosh pit broke out and security shut the line down.  The Wife and I were caught on the edge of the mess. I knew where they were going to send us and I tried to tell The Wife but it was loud with angry nerds.   Once I heard security shout: to the stairs, I tried to drag, guide, push The Wife in the right direction. I’m sure she thought I was some strange nerd dragging her away. It was human salmon swimming upstream against humanity.

For the most part, we navigated through the crowd and headed to the stairs quickly. The next problem was the 3 flights down and some people move quicker than me. Then navigating through the corrals at the bottom of the stairs was challenge.

While we queued up unharmed, we were deep in the line.  The dreams of Game of Thrones success was quickly fading.  As we slowly inched toward the WB drawings table, we heard the dreaded cry: GoT is done.

As with everything at SDCC, you have alternate plans. For me, Plan B was The 100. I was dragging The Wife along as insurance. If failed, she would also pick The 100. If I succeeded, then she would try for The Originals. We were both lucky and we both won.

The signing had 6 actors and a producer:

As in the past, The 100 people were all very friendly. The women dressed to the nines (rude of me to notice, I know). The guys dressed much more causal. As Richard Harmon signed, I mentioned I saw him at ComicPalooza. He paused and said that as in Houston. I was impressed. He said it was one of the few shows that wasn’t ‘comiccon’ and the city name. Bob Morely always gives me a look of: hey let’s go grab a beer and catch up.

It was a good signing and a nice way to forget the morning ugliness.

Michael Beach Alamo City ComicCon 2017

Michael Beach is very fan friendly. While the line wasn’t long, it was slow as he chatted with everyone.

In front of me was a gaggle of middle aged women that were ‘crushing’ on him.  They giggled like young teens around the Alpha male. They posed for a few photos with him. One female was more brazen than the others and asked him to flex his biceps. He is fit and muscular. He teasingly slid the sleeve of the tee shirt above the muscle.  The women appreciatively ooh-ed and ahh-ed.  Then the brazen one caressed his arm.  She was leering when the photo was taken of her stroking his arm. After that, they all moved away as they looked over the photos.  I would say this made their day, week, and year.

Still smiling, Michael turned to me and looked at the photo I wanted signed.  With surprise, he asked if I watched this show.  I confirmed it was ‘The 100’, and I said yes. I told him I was a sci f geek and I enjoyed the show. Thinking that he doubted that, I told him it was a shame his character was killed off.  They could have used him this season to help with the hard choices that needed to be made. I think that convinced him and then we just did the normal chat before I left.
