I had no expectations when I walked up to Nicole Kang’s table. Her line was short and seemed to be moving quickly. I was just adding another name to my collection.
Just as I was about to pick out a photo, her ‘convention manager’
walked up to me with a smile. This is the person that books the conventions for
the actors. I have seen her over the
years at various conventions. At times, she is busy and we just nod or wave
from afar. Sometimes we never make eye contact. And sometimes, like this day,
we chat. I excused myself from the line
and chatted. It was a good chat. We talked at least 5 minutes. A lot of different
topics. It’s good to see a friendly face in a strange city.
When we were done, I got back to the end of the line. Nicole was extremely friendly and funny. She added
the quote which I loved. In fact, Wallis
Day wandered to look at what was happening.
Then we chatted about Atlanta, DragonCon, working with Wallis and how
Rachel Skarsten was everyone’s favorite (Rachel hadn’t shown up yet), so they
were teasing her in absentia.
Just before I left, she stuck her hand out under the plexiglass
barrier and we shook hands. That was very sweet in the days of COVID.
