There is no doubt that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles were anxiously awaited and well received.
Both Jared and Jensen embrace the convention and the fans at
the show. They are funny and kid each other and answer questions from the audience.
They had the audience laughing and giggling. For the last question of their
panel, they brought the fan up on stage with them.
After the panel (the last activity for the convention), they
started signing. They were screened off from the crowd but as you got closer
you could see them interact with the others in line. They had a couple of
tables separating them from the unwashed masses for COVID concerns. You slide
your item to a handler and they slide it over to the actor and then it was given
back to you.
It was a long line but a quick line for each actor. The process was a ‘hi’, ‘thanks’, and quick eye contact. They both did good about catching everyone’s eye before moving to the next item to sign. Occasionally, you could hear them say, I remember you from the photo op. And you could see the thrill that gave the fan.
The waiting wasn’t too bad as the audience was called by row
number (you have assigned seats based on your Gold or Silver badge). I sat and
played Pokémon Go as I waited.
I got Jared first and quickly realized I had no chance on getting
a quote added. After him, my row was called for Jensen. I think he paused a micro
second to admire the photo. At the least, that’s how I remember it.
As I was waiting to get Alexander Calvert’s auto, Jared and
Jensen finished signing. They got up on stage and thanked everyone for coming. They
both tried to be the one with the last word. It seemed well rehearsed. Jared made
a few comments and was leaving the stage when Jensen joined him. Then Jensen
left and Jared had a final thought. Then Jensen came out from behind the stage curtains
and leaped onto a chair in the audience and said a few more words. It was a fun way to say goodbye.
