Bruce McGill Giganticon 2023

I have never been to this convention before. I’m not even sure if I’ve driven through Killeen, TX in the 30 years of living in Texas. This show moved onto my radar last year. They had a guest I was interested in but he cancelled. The rest of the guest list didn’t make it worth the drive.  This year they had a few names that caused me to raise an eyebrow and plan the trip south.

The convention was at the town event center. It’s nice. I was surprised I could get parking a few rows from the front door. That is not a complaint. I liked this convention. It’s small. The guest list was very nice considering the size of the show. The drive wasn’t hard. I’ve driven further for a convention. And there is a Bucc-ees not too far away.

After entering the main floor, I quickly found where most of the guests were. I walked up to Bruce McGill. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, his face does. I always think of the sheriff in My Cousin Vinny but most of you probably think Animal House.  Whatever. He had done a LOT of work.

The best photo I found to print came from Rizzoli & Isles.  We chatted a bit. Just the standard stuff. Then I asked if he was town ‘x in Texas. (I don’t want to besmirch the location so I withhold the name.)  He smiled and said something like: That rat hole!?! No, I’m from San Antonio. (Yes, his chest swelled with pride as he uttered those words.)

Then it was time to move on.
