Josh Brolin SpaceConSA 2024

This was an expensive autograph for me.  I would have loved to have gotten a quote added to my Josh Brolin photo of Gurney Halleck but a quote was an additional charge that was almost as much as the signature. Oh well.

While I saw a few Goonies items getting signed, most people were getting items from Deadpool signed. Deadpool 2 is a great movie and it was tempting but I liked this movie more. I have always enjoyed the Dune books.

The line was long. It was late on Friday. He signed quickly and not chatting much with people. I think that was more of the set up than his personality. He seemed friendly and would pause now and then. But the handlers were moving people through the line quickly.

I handed over my blue deco pen and he blotted first and then signed. That’s always good to see. He finished and mentioned he really like that pen. He looked over the pens available at the tabled and didn’t see any. I offered him mine. He gave me quick smile and handed it back.

Then I walked away and waited for my autograph to dry.  Decos are great but dry slow.

My Friday was over and it was time for The Wife to pick me up and take me to the hotel.

Kyle MacLachlan Comicpalooza 2022

I’m really happy how this turned out. I took the time to find a photo I wanted. That was great because at Kyle MacLachlan’s table, he didn’t have any photos I liked. Most of them were from Twin Peaks. As I was waiting, I had several people excitedly ask where I got mine. They thought they missed it on the table.

Originally, I was going to have Kyle write: The Spice Must Flow. While he didn’t say that, it is an iconic phrase in the movie, Dune. But as he was about to write it down, I asked if I could change that. He smiled and lifted the pen from the photo. He asked what I would like.  I got a bigger smile when I quoted from the 'Litany'. After he finished, he agreed that seemed to fit better.

As he looked over the signed photo, he pointed out a couple of people standing in the sand. He named them. Some were his co-stars and some were the film crew. It was nice that he shared that.

Dune, Kevin J Anderson, and Brian Herbert

When I was a kid, a good friend showed me his copy of Dune.  We were maybe 10 or 11 years old. He told me the book had its own language.  I would have to read the back of the book first.  As a kid I was both intrigued and horrified by such an unconventional thought.
I few years later I stumbled across the book again and I read it. I read the back of the book first and I struggled with the glossary.  It was worth it though.  I often wondered if the thrill and excitement I had when I read Dune was the same experience my dad had when he read Three Musketeers.
Dune is one of my Desert Island books. It’s one of the five books I’d want to have with me if I was stranded on a desert island.  The book’s depth of story and characters makes it one I reread often and I know I will never tire of it. Dune is a classic and the following books that Frank Herbert released in the series are cannon to me and have a very special place in my life.  I’ve read the original at least 15 times.  The next 2 books of the series I may have read 10 times each and the next 3 books a few times less for each one. Yes, I’m one of those guys that will reread the entire series when the new one comes out.
Then Frank Herbert passed away, he left the series with a cliff-hanger.  A few rumors were heard about an outline for the final book and more rumors that his son, Brian Herbert, would be carrying on the series.
