Sometimes, I feel downright silly and out of place when I go to a signing. It’s so obvious I don’t belong and while I might not standout like a sore thumb, I feel like one.
Lisa Loeb is something of a jack of all trades, actress, eyeglass mogul, singer, and song writer; a modern day renascence man.
She was in Frisco for her book called Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Alongs. It’s for ages 5 and up. I’m pushing the ‘up’ side of the equation. The event was attended by parents and kids from 10 years old and younger.
Lisa sang about 10 songs and was well received by the crowd. She had everyone laughing when she got the parents to do Mr. Abraham (I song I never heard or saw before) and had men and women hoping around on one foot. It’s really amusing to see someone dressed as a power attorney in their suit waving their hands in the air and singing.
She’d causally pause mid-song as a little one would wonder over and start to ask her questions. She’d answer as the parents would retrieve the errant child and then continue without missing a beat.
She had the young and old laughing and giggling alike as she spoke, and joked, and sang. Yes, even I cracked a smile and laughed a few times.
So why did this old man attend a signing for a kid’s song book? It’s the addiction of collecting autographs. It’s worse than crack. You need a fix or you don’t feel alive. It’s the only thing that takes the pain away.
Nah, the real reason is I have a friend with a brat. It’ll be a good Christmas present. This way I’m sure to get invited over for Christmas Turkey. It’s all about the turkey.
AH
Nice pick up!
ReplyDeleteI got Lisa eight years ago when she opened for the Goo Goo Dolls at the House of Blues in Hollywood. She signed autographs after her set.
Congrats! I really only know he as a kid song artist and her eye glass frmaes. Looking her up on IMDB, I see she is so much more.
