Tom Holland had the longest line, by far, at Comicpalooza. I spent
a lot of time in line for him. At least the people next to me were nice. And I will
say, 80 % of the people in line were female. And of those females I was older
than 80% of their dads.
One of the things slowing the line down was security. There was
a LOT of security. You could not see Tom.
He was behind 2 layers of curtains. Once you were ‘close’, you had to leave your
backpack, bags, and purses on a table. No camera or phones were allowed either. Then
you went through the metal detector. This was managed by Houston PD and rental security
officers. Then you went behind the first
curtain. It was a short walk to the open
area where Tom sat behind a table.
There were 3 security men in their area. The first was the
greeter. While big and professional looking, he had people skills. He sized me
up quickly and then shook my hand. He smiled and gave me the spiel. He lighten
the mood. There was a security guy standing next to Tom (not the handler). He tried to look innocuous. Lastly was the guy guiding people out of the
enclosure.
Tom was pleasant. He engaged the fangirls and made them
smile. Making them smile wasn’t hard, they were walking on clouds to start
with.
