I liked the movie Mannequin.
I loved Kingdom Hospital. AndrewMcCarthy was in town for the Dallas Travel and Adventure Show. This was the same show I attended a month ago
in LA to see Josh Gates. It’s a good year for me and this show.
Andrew was a good speaker. He had anecdotes and shared how
he started doing travel writing.
He opened his talk about Mt Kilimanjaro. He said older women have the easier time doing
that climb. Younger men have the hardest time. Why? Because the women listen to
the guide and the men try too hard. It’s
a ‘easy’ climb. It’s just a long SLOW walk to the top. Guys tend to move too
fast in the rarified air.
What he said about NYC and how it cleaned up was spot on. I also
agree New Yorkers are willing to help tourists. However, you might not
recognize what they are doing as ‘help’. He also shared a comment about being tired and
frustrated when traveling. This can usually be fixed by a nap and some food. I must
admit, this took me a few years of attending San Diego ComicCon to realize that
pearl of wisdom. The meltdowns I saw everyday as I traversed the convention center
was due to a lack rest and people binging on junk food.
After his talk, he sat at the signing table. He signed for all
of the fans. It didn’t matter if you bought his book or just had photos. He took
photos and exchanged a few words with everyone.
