I got to Fan Expo Dallas ‘early’. Well, early for me. Maybe 4:30 PM on Friday. I normally show up around 6 PM-ish on Friday. This year, I snuck out of work before closing time.
I missed being able to park in the parking garage by 5 Cars. Overflow parking was about ½ mile away. The temperature
was in the mid to high 90’s. Needless to
say, I was sweat soaked by the time I got to the convention center.
Knowing that I can rinse the worst of the sweat off in the
restroom and cool off, I didn’t let that effect my mood. Of course, that implies
the convention center would be cooler. The
building was cooler than outside but it didn’t feel much cooler. That did impact
my mood all weekend.
Standing on concrete is tough. Standing in line on concrete
is harder as you have very little space to move and shift your weight. Standing and sweating is the worse. Your feet
and back start complaining. All you can do is sweat. Then your fellow fans bump
into you as they try to get figure out how to get conformable. It just
increases the misery index.
I was not a happy campy for this convention. I did email Fan
Expo. They replied fairly quickly and apologized. Their email said the air conditioning
was not working.
I replied to their email. I stated if the air conditioning wasn’t
working, then the convention center owed them money. That money should be redistributed
to the attendees. Fan Expo responded there are no refunds.
I don’t see this as a refund. I see that Fan Expo received a
wind fall (a refund from the convention center because the air conditioning was
not working. Air Conditioning has to be in the contract for the rental, doesn’t?)
and the money should not be kept by Fan Expo.
Just my 2 cents.
