Michael Stackpole Rebel Scum Con 2026

I’ll skip my issues with Rebel Scum Con as I want to focus on Michael A Stackpole. While I was in the insane line for Rebel Scum, I passed Michael’s table. He was signing for others. He was chatting and explaining things about his work.

My line slowly inched forward. I kept looking back. People brought every copy of their books for him to sign. He didn’t mind. When his line was nearly empty, I asked the person behind me if I could leave for a few minutes. She gave me her blessing. Then I went to Michael’s table. He was just finishing with a younger fan as I pulled my book out of the backpack.

The fan left and I stepped up. I told him I was trying to multi-task. I was stuck in the line that was never moving and figured I would at least see him.

The last thing he said to the previous fan concerned writing stories in other people’s universes. The public doesn’t know what is planned. The publisher is often planning the next 2 years out. Either with books ready to print or consigning work to other authors. Michael’s suggestion to the fan was to contact the publisher before investing time on writing something that won’t fit the time line. I never thought of that before.

After I handed over my book, he asked about my polo shirt. yes, I was wearing my obligatory UofA shirt. He asked if the ‘A’ was Arizona. I asked if he went there. He said no, he lives in the Pheonix area. So that got us chatting about AZ and monsoons and mountains.

He asked if he could personalize. I said, I would like something more old school: name, date, and convention. He normally doesn’t do that but I think he liked that idea.

When I got back in line, the line moved about 50 feet. Not far but much further than I expected. We made progress. I think I waited another 1 ½ hours to get my autograph tickets.

Michelle Ang Rebel Scum Con 2025

The one actor that put this convention on my radar was Michelle Ang. She plays Omega in The Bad Batch. Yes, I have said it before, I really like that series.

Before she signed, she told me she liked that photo. It was one I printed. She said it was from ‘x’ episode. I didn’t think she was right and said I thought it was from ‘y’ episode. She told me she could tell by the hair style Omega was wearing.  Yes, I laughed.  I sure this is sexist, but of course she would notice the hairstyle. And of course, I won’t notice that.

She had several quotes at the ready. Looked down her list. I think what she picked was perfect for the photo…and especially since I think it goes with the episode that I think this image is from.

I asked if she had a favorite Bad Batch clone. She said after the first season it was Wrecker. I like him a lot too. He’s a loveable giant. She mentioned it changed after the second season. It’s now Crosshair.  He’s someone that believes in following order even without the inhibitor chip. I agree, he is a much more interesting chnaracter in Season 2 and 3. But I still like Wrecker.

I left her table, a very happy camper.

Rena Owen Rebel Scum Con 2025

One thing the Star Wars Universe has done a lot of, is use the same actor for live action and animation. It’s not all the time, but it happens often which gives some nice emotional feels (as the young ones say).

One of those actors is Rena Owen.  She plays Taun We in Attack of the Clones and in Bad Batch and some of the video games.

The photo signed, is from her table. I liked it. She said it was printed for one of the early Star Wars Celebration conventions. It makes the photo a little more special.

She gave me a huge smile and we just chatted a little. When it was time to sign, she knew what she was doing. She told me she was using white for the signature. I’m sure the location was by design by Official Pix. It looks great.

Toby Philpott Rebel Scum Con 2025

This is confusing, but bear with me.

Jabba the Hutt is not real. He is a puppet. Albeit a BIG puppet. As with all puppets, a person is needed to move the puppet. And with this giant puppet, 2 people were needed. At Rebel Scum, Toby Philpott attended. He was the man that moved the left arm of Jabba.

Toby was very outgoing. He talked about hitchhiking across the USA and MX. Being a street performer and moving back to London. Then getting a job with Jim Henson’s workshop and then being picked for Jabba. A very interesting story.  I hope you get a chance to cross paths with him and hear in person.

Howie Weed Rebel Scum Con 2025

While the wampa is small part, it is iconic in the Star Wars films. We see Luke using the force in a way we never thought possible. We knew it could influence the weak minded. It could anticipate the actions. Now we learn it can move objects. The light saber flying to the hand to cut of the arm of the wampas was thrilling.

Yes, of course, I wanted the signature of Howie Weed who was in the suit for the re-release. Howie (aka Harold) normally works in the Art Dept but he has done some acting. This was one of those times.

I loved that he added a quote: Grrrr!!

Andy Secombe Rebel Scum Con 2025

Last year, I attended Rebel Scum’s inaugural convention in Allen, Texas. It was a small convention and the guest list was wanting. This year, it moved to Frisco and the guest line up was deeper. I only got 5 signatures although I wanted more. I had another commitment for the weekend and wasn’t sure how long I could spend at this convention.

The first guest was Andy Secombe. He was friendly. We chatted and then he mentioned he ate at Perry’s the previous night. It’s a nice steak house close to the convention center. The Wife and I have gone there for anniversaries or birthdays. I recommend it.

He picked up a black sharpie but I stopped him and suggested blue.  He checked where I wanted it signed. I mentioned when I printed the photo, I thought the right side would be the best location. I think I’m right.

Rebel Scum Con – Allen, Texas 2024

Rebel Scum was a small convention in Allen. This was a first-time convention. Most people realized that, but it still got a lot of criticism. I agree they could have done things better, but this was the first time. I’m sure if they do an honest review of the good, the bad, and the ugly, next year will be smoother and get a better response from the public.

The small convention had a very long guest list. Even though the list was long, the guests were mostly actors that no one knew. They are actors that sent time behind the make up and prosthetics. Many played multiple minor character roles in the Star Wars Universe. On top of that, a few actors have been though the DFW area over the years, so that limited the need of some collectors to attend.

As discussed previously, I do have an issue when collecting autographs. I have a hard time saying 'no'.  From the long guest list, I found 4 people I wanted autographs.

I think everyone knows Carey Jones for one reason or another. I originally thought I would get a photo signed from Predator but I did like the photo from The Book of Bobba Fett. He was nice and we chatted a few minutes.

Michonne Bouriague sat toward the back of the autograph room. She was also sweet. We chatted in general and both agreed, the next year for this show would be better. It seemed she actually understood, this might be a slow weekend for her.

Marti Matluis will be in an upcoming series for Disney. I have liked most of that I have watched. Looking forward to the new one. We talked about Star Wars celebration and the chances of him attending.

The last one was Grant Feely who was in Obi Wan. He played a small part. The young man was friendly. He took his time and verified I like the location and color of the signature. I tried not to laugh. I wish all actors did that.  I shared a dad joke with him. He didn’t get it but his mom laughed. It might be the way I tell it.

After I was done with my autographs, I found my co-worker that was walking the expo floor.  We hung out together for a while. As we looked at the vendor booths, I was trying to talk him into attending other conventions in the near future.  There are so many in the DFW area. Maybe I’ll have a new ComicCon buddy to go to shows with.
