Tatiana Maslany Super Hero ComicCon San Antonio 2024

Orphan Black had me hooked from the opening scene of a young lady stepping out of her shoes and walking into a train…and then someone that looked like the deceased picking up her shoes and purse.

Tatiana Maslany played all of the clones in Orphan Black and each one had a unique personality. It was a good show to watch.

I was in Tatiana’s line with some friends. The wait seemed short as we were all chatting among ourselves.  Tatiana was behind plexiglass and wore a mask as she greeted the fans and signed.

I was glad I printed something. The table photos were nice but they were all She-Hulk.  As the handler passed along my photo, he explained to Tatiana that all the Orphan Black photo were granulated.  Tatiana cooed as she saw my photo. I told her my Dad and I really liked this show and we both agreed that Helena is our favorite. I asked if she could add the quote. She read it and she said it was perfect.

After she signed, I asked if it was true she had a theme song for each clone. It was her way to get into character.  She said she used music to separate the personalities and told me what was used for Helena. I think she said Tom Wait (e) not sure.  It was muffled behind the mask and plexiglass but I was thrilled she answered.

This was my favorite encounter and autograph all day.

Chris Pine Super Hero ComicCon San Antonio 2024

I really liked the photo.

I really like the full signature.

I really like the placement of the autograph.

I love the character name and the underline to emphasis it.

Chris Pine was the second autograph that I got in San Antonio. It was a smooth process. He smiled as he focused on what the handler and fans were telling him about placement and pen color for their objects.  My 8x10 was cake walk in comparison to uniforms, posters, phasers, models of the Enterprise he was signing.

I had a big smile as I left his booth. James T Kirk signed my photo.

Diego Luna Super Hero ComicCon San Antonio 2024

Now and then I get an autograph of someone I already have one. I am usually ‘one and done’. Many years ago, Diego Luna came to Dallas for a film Festival. He graciously signed my photo before entering the theater. Not the best photo but I was happy with it.

However, now I have a better photo and while I have to pay to get it signed, I was happy for the upgrade.

Diego was all smiles. He was moving fast but would pause if someone asked him something. I was about to just do the normal, ‘Welcome to San Antonio’ but someone a few feet back in line asked a question. As he answered, I picked up my photo and left.

Orlando Bloom Super Hero ComicCon San Antonio 2024

Apparently, Orlando Bloom wasn’t feeling well at this convention. He took a few breaks while signing. While I was anxious to get my dopamine fix with another autograph, I understand. I really do.

Orlando looked good and as he signed; he spent a few seconds with each fan. I liked how he used the whole photo to sign and add the character name.

As I was waiting for the signature to try, I noticed all of the women milling about his booth and trying to sneak a peek through the privacy curtain. I noticed many of them were wearing more makeup than normal for a ComicCon. This was not the normal ‘I’m going to Walmart’ makeup. This was ‘I’m going to Nordstrom’s’ makeup.

That reminded me of a comic strip I used to read in the newspaper: Fox Trot. The little brother was a nerd. As the excitement built for the new Lord of the Rings movie, he exclaimed how Orlando Bloom ruined everything! Because all the teenage girls were filling up the movie theater and not his fellow geeks.  It’s a good comic and the Bill Amend published that run of strips as a book. Go read it. You’ll laugh.

Jaimie Alexander Super Hero ComicCon San Antonio 2024

The Wife and I drove down to San Antonio for the Super Hero ComicCon.  This was an over-nighter. We drove down Friday night and then left Saturday evening. She visited relatives and I attended the convention.

Jaimie Alexander was actually the last autograph I got that day. It should have been earlier but I was late to the first signing and needed to wait until she came back…much later in the day. It happens. ‘Best laid plans’ and all of that.

This was a very quick process. I handed over my photo, it was signed in a second and handed back. I barely said ‘hi’ and ‘thank you’. Again, it happens. I will add, I'm happy I printed a photo. The table photos were nice but this was much nicer.

Andrew Garfield Superhero ComicCon and Car Show 2023

Andrew Garfield was nice. He was signing and adding the character name.

I liked the photo a lot. it’s slightly disorienting as he’s upside down and the image is busy. But the signature is placed well and he did add ‘Amazing Spider-Man to the bottom.

As I was waiting, a mom and daughter were in front of me. The daughter was at least 25 years ago. She was pestering him. The daughter wanted Andrew to say which was ‘hotter’, the mom or daughter. Then add that to the photo there were getting signed.  Such an awkward situation.

He was smiling but seemed uncomfortable.  He paused as the daughter tried one last time but he wrote something noncommittal. They laughed as they left. My fellow hound and I paused to let him have a few seconds to clear his mental palette. It’s not all fund and games to be a celeb.

Hailee Steinfeld Superhero ComicCon and Car Show 2023

I have gotten Hailee Steinfeld’s autograph on a mini-poster for Ender’s Game 10 years ago. But if you know me, I also like to get 8x10’s too. San Antonio gave me that opportunity.  It didn’t hurt that both The Wife and I really enjoyed the series, Hawkeye.

This was another photo I found on line and printed. I liked the way the white ink looks.

Kit Harington Superhero ComicCon and Car Show 2023

For me, getting Kit Harington’s autograph was a big get. I printed the photo. I liked that Jon Snow was in the snow. Forgive me for the pun. Silly of me.

As I was standing in line before the signing, some other fans and I chatted about which color pen to use.  We agreed blue would be good.  It didn’t tun out perfect but good. The signature was much bigger than expected. The impact wasn’t as bold as I hoped. He did include the ‘Jon Snow’ which we were told he won’t do.

Elizabeth Olsen Superhero ComicCon and Car Show 2023

It took me a while to find a photo I liked for ElizabethOlsen. I found this one and printed it. I would have preferred a darker red pen…and probably signed in the sky instead of the ground but I’m still very happy with this one.

Lizzy (as her friends call her and apparently a lot of her fans) looked glamorous. She was nice and signed. I was told no quotes so I didn’t try.

Brie Larson Superhero ComicCon and Car Show 2023

I drove down to San Antonio on Thursday night so I’d be ready on Friday morning for this show. I have gone several times over the last few years. While the guest list is small it’s quality names that I seem to always want. Since the list is small, there is a lot of down time and there are actually places to sit and relax. I had a good time and spent a lot of time with a fellow hound.

The Wife and I watched United States of Tara and enjoyed it.  When Brie Larson was named Ms. Marvel, we were happy about it.  Having Brie in San Antonio, which is almost my backyard, made a return trip to the Superhero ComicCon a no-brainer.

Brie was all smiles. While moving through the line quickly, she still personalized photos.   I loved that she added Higher, Further, Faster to my photo.
